What is REACH ?

Tenneco supports and promotes the goals of life cycle management, product safety, sustainable development and effective risk communication to employees and customers.

The new REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) regulation will involve thousands of chemicals and materials that are sold in the EU. The purpose of REACH is to increase knowledge about chemical substances marketed in the EU and to ensure that they are properly managed. The REACH regulation became effective on June 1, 2007, although implementation of most of the requirements begins per June 2008.

TENNECO and REACH

Tenneco recognizes that REACH will have a significant impact on companies that make or sell products in Europe. The company has been proactive in preparing to meet the REACH requirementsand intends to work with its suppliers to pre-register substances, according to the REACH criteria for pre-registration.

Although REACH is a European regulation, it applies to goods coming into the region from all over the world – making the law a global compliance matter. As a global supplier to the automotive industry, we are working toward global implementation of the REACH program with a comprehensive action plan to meet these new regulatory requirements.

Further details on REACH will be clarified when the REACH Technical Guidance Documents are finalized and published officially. At that point, Tenneco will have a better understanding of the impact of REACH on our raw materials, products and supply chain. The company will continue to monitor the development of these documents and update compliance activities accordingly.

We are committed to providing timely and relevant information about certain aspects of REACH to our customers and suppliers with the goal of ensuring that Tenneco’s REACH compliance is as seamless as possible to our customer base.

Hence, in turn, we expect our suppliers to take their responsibility in organising a similar approach to cover for their obligations and to timely provide us with all the information needed to comply with the REACH legislation.
