Role of a Lambda sensor

The Lambda sensor helps to regulate the ratio of air to fuel to obtain efficient combustion.

To operate efficiently, catalytic converters need a correct mix of exhaust gases and high temperatures. The Lambda sensor measures the ratio of air to fuel in the exhaust gas and transmits this data to the engine's ECU (Electronic Control Unit).

The sensor indicates when the fuel-air ratio is too rich or too lean. It contributes to the service life of the catalytic converter and to lower emissions.
