Catalytic converters depend on the correct mix of exhaust gases and high temperatures to function efficiently. A Lambda sensor is an instrument which measures the ratio of air to fuel present in the exhaust gas. Lambda Sensor tells a vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU) when the exhaust stream indicates too rich or too lean air or fuel ratio during combustion with a voltage signal.

A properly operating Lambda Sensor protects the service life of the catalytic converter and contributes to lower emissions. The Lambda Sensor is fitted to the exhaust pipe in front of the catalytic converter
