Types - Tail Pipe

Tail Pipe

The tail pipe is an extremely important component of the exhaust system.

It ensures that exhaust gas is emitted past the end of the vehicle's bodywork. This prevents exhaust gas from entering the luggage compartment and, ultimately, the passenger compartment.

In current practice, the rear silencer is positioned toward the end of the traditional tail pipe and behind the rear suspension. This saves space and also effectively reduces exhaust noise more effectively across the underbody range. In these applications, the tail pipe is usually less than 250mm long.

"Light-off"—the chemical processes within the catalytic converter do not start until a certain temperature is reached. This temperate point is approximately 300°C to 350°C and is called light-off temperature.
